Any person can join the Royal British Legion; there are 3 types of membership: -

 The Ordinary Member, Family Member & The Associate Member

An Ordinary Member is a person who has attained the age of 18 years, and has served in the Armed Forces i.e. The Royal Navy, The Army, and The Royal Air Force, drawn at least 7 days pay and obtained an Honourable Discharge, This includes National Service. The Reserve Forces must have obtained an Honourable Discharge and served at least 6 months and completed an Annual Camp. The Home Guard, having served at least 6 months, and the Merchant Navy & Serving Personnel.

In addition to Ordinary Members, A Branch Club may elect the wives, husbands, parents, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, grandparents and grandchildren of Ordinary Members, who shall be termed Family Members.  This membership shall continue after the death of the sponsoring member.

An Associate Member is a person who has not served in the Armed Forces, who accepts and supports the policies and objects of the Royal British Legion Scotland, which is to care for the Ex Service Community.
